As y'all know, we lock our fridge and all our food at night. We also have a black lock box that we lock our knives and scissors in...there are keys in various 'hiding' places around the house. There are (thankfully) spares to each....
We have a key 'spot' in the house...we have noticed recently that many of the key rings were getting smaller. Finally today every last key had been removed from one particular household keyring (when we are up, things are unlocked -- mostly) and the keys are kept where we can access them quickly should we need to suddenly have to lock up the fridge or food. *sigh*. Some of the keys that are not used on a regular basis are kept in plain sight.
We have also been finding little pieces of paper around the house. Some are written on sticky notes and some are just note pad pages rolled up like a scroll. They are nearly impossible to read and very obscure as to what Harley is trying to say...
Well when we noticed that THREE keys are now missing...we asked Harley about it and he responds "Well haven't you found the clues?"...Umm, I thought he was just jotting down ramblings from his brain and haven't been taking the time to put the 'clues' together...some of them have even found their way into the trash can in the last couple of days...
Ends up that the little slips of paper are clues as to where he has hidden the keys over the last couple of days...I have been using spares figuring I would run across the other keys eventually. Some of them are keys to 'spare' locks we have in the house (like for when we go swimming to lock up the padlocks, for the shed, etc.).
Today I found one of the keys (now a loose key because it's been removed from it's ring) in the baby food cabinet--hiding behind some of the jars...
Harley does his little squeeze his ears, face and giggle routine and goes on to tell me "oh you are lucky you found one! Only FOUR more to go"...ends up he also found the spare car key and the spare van keys and I now have to play treasure hunt to find them. One was discovered in the mailbox outside...I could only imagine if someone came by and found the key to my van in my mailbox...would my van still be here in the morning?
He tried to steal the main key ring tonight when we got home from camp. Thankfully we caught him! Andrew's suggesting getting a box with a combo lock and just keeping all the keys locked up there, but then I'm afraid Andrew would forget the combination :) -- or worse, the box will disappear.
Oh I just don't know what to do...I can't very well carry the keys on me at ALL times...
