I was finally able to get through to Harley's caseworker today. Found out I'm approved to have respite for Harley for 20 hours the week I have surgery..So he'll / they'll get 4 hours a day on Sat, Sun, Mon, Tues and Wed while I am in the hospital (I should be home by Wednesday at the latest--right?!)...I contacted a provider who has three employees that may be able to do it...they all are approved drivers as well so that will also take care of getting Harley to/from CP on Mon, Tues and Wed!!
If none of them can work the right hours for transporation or we don't like them after interviewing them I have feelers out for a special needs transportation program under Harley's extensive medicaid benefits. I have to have my letter of medical necessity to even make that request though :(
If any of the people work out, I still have 4 hours of respite available...the only reason we haven't been using it is because we haven't found a provider we trust and like and does well with Harley....I am trying to get that upped to 8 hours a week for the 3-4 weeks after surgery while I recuperate. I just have to get a letter of medical neccessity from my neurosurgeon...which I requested today.
Interviews should be starting this weekend! I sure hope we can find someone quickly that we like and that gets along well with Harley so that all the paperwork can be accomplished in time.
