More school news

Yesterday we get a call from Harley's school nurse...Strangely enough, they no longer ask to speak to me but asked to speak to Andrew...could they be afraid to talk to me? Especially once I found out what it was about....

Let me preface by saying that last week I sent a note in because Harley had said he got into a fight on the playground and I was assured that the aide is with him by his side through recess...

Yesterday's call? To tell Andrew that some 6th graders had talked Harley into eating gravel on the playground so he may end up sick. They went on to "assure" him that this would not happen again because they would make sure there was an aide with him on the playground...Now WHY do I have trust issues with everything they tell me? hmm, can't imagine why!

What really gets me, is that Harley will eat gravel whether another student tells him to or not...this is part of his Pica...

Pica is defined as: : an abnormal desire to eat substances (as chalk or ashes) not normally eaten (as taken from the Miriam Webster online dictionary)

Now where does my frustration build with this? First off, this is in his behavior plan that they recently "reinstated"...secondly, it is on his health plan that this is one of his diagnoses with warnings that he should be supervised at all times because of the risk of ingesting something dangerous....

Man if it weren't for his autism and his need for routine and the fact that we have to change schools at the end of next year, I would find a way to get him transferred NOW!! GRH!!

Oh yeah, and a note came home from school on Tuesday night saying that he had a hard time in gym class and that he had to be sent out because he was yelling at the teacher because he didn't like volleyball and that's what they were doing during PE.

Funny, all year long both this year and last year, they claimed to not have any behaviors....now that I got their supervisor involved I've been getting notes or phone calls DAILY about the behaviors they are having....I don't think this suddenly started -- I think they are just now starting to take this seriously!!

Wow, that really stinks. I cant imagine how rough that is on you. And I don't blame you for having trust issues with the school.

I don't have kids old enough for school yet but I am seriously considering Home-schooling them. Our local school systems are a joke and are only going to get worse.

Sorry, I am rambling now. **Hugs** I hope things smooth out soon.

Wow, I don't know what to say, I can't imagine what it is like dealing with that crap. My goodness, you have had a rough go of things lately.

Thinking of you.
