I got the referral for Zachary to be evaluated by early intervention services so I should be working on that....
Of course, I have a houseful of work to catch up on...including cleaning these carpets...AGAIN!
Harley's OT dropped a bomb on me last night saying that he has platueaued (yes, we already knew that). He is at the functioning of a five year old (although he's 11)...she just doesn't feel that there is much more she can do for him...well let's see, he's 11 and functioning on a five year old level???!! Anyhow, she went on to say that he is much more advanced than most children with the label of autism in that he can read, speak and write. Yes, he has made amazing progress since his diagnosis in March 2000...but if she discharges him from care...OMG!! She's been seeing him for three years now so the major concern is his routine...THe other concern is a backslide...if you take the supports away he will start to degrade in his condition -- it's happened before!!
She did go on to say that she felt he would be better served by seeing a behavorist since the behaviors many times stand in the way of his therapy sessions. Well since he's on the 'special' medicaid and has a dual diagnosis the mental health department will only see him for medications...they have no behavioral services available unless the child is involved with the police or social services. He does attend a behavioral program three times a week, but that's a whole 'nother story in the services they provide (I currently have a formal complaint pending against them for failure to provide 'behavioral services').
I know instead of sitting here writing this I should be working on the house and the other things I need to do...I just felt like I was on the upswing of coming out of the depression and adding all this has just pushed me back down a couple of rungs. I am trying so hard to get out of this valley.....
