Today while Andrew as at the orthopeadic department his employer called. Because his knee is in such bad shape and he's been put on work restrictions they are laying him off!!!! They have "no available clients" for him :( .... Wow, what more can I handle this week? It's been a real test...this whole week! Now instead of hoping I have a late bfp coming...I have to hope that AF shows instead and since I really wasn't feeling that hopeful of that anyway, it really shouldn't bother me this much.
I never gave an update on his knee...He went to the doctor last week for his knee...had x-rays done and found that he has severe arthritis, bone spurs and his knee is completely trashed to the point of needing a knee replacement. However, the insurance will not cover a knee replacement at his age...he has to be at least 50 years old...so another five years?! They offered that he come in for a cortisone shot every three months and have an unloader brace made. He was referred to orthopeadics and they (surprisingly) got him in right away. That doctor looked at his x-ray and told him he was shocked he could even walk!! He referred him to do physical therapy and get the brace. They told him it takes 10-14 days to get the brace...well he won't have insurance in 10-14 days....(now that he's laid off he's not eligible for health insurance through his employer that was scheduled to start on October 1st)
The DME company called him today and are going to squeeze him in on Friday and get it all covered under the insurance then all he'll have to do is come back to get it the following week.
Worst part is the insurance we now have ends the 30th of September and the premiums will double (and so will the copays!) as of the 1st of October...to top it off...Since his job laid him off, he will no longer have the option of insurance (and not be covered) beyond the 30th!! (I have insurance through my job, but the cost for me to cover him through my employer is much, much more expensive than him getting it through his employer AND with him losing his income...well we can't afford it!!)
His employer refuses to allow him to sign a waiver of liability so that he can continue to work. They have not answered him yet if he will be allowed to return to work once he receives his brace. The doctor refuses to take the limitation off via a letter to the employer. The doctor won't be able to write him a letter after he gets the brace in place because he won't have insurance. So it's a catch 22....
Just more paperwork for me now..not only do I get to try to find a job and give up ttc altogether and being home with my kids after only two years...I get to try to get the schedule written out so he can actually MANAGE the household, apply for unemployment for him and SSDI too just in case we can't figure anything else out...in today's job market I don't know how long it's gonna be before either of us finds a job...This BITES!!!
