To my youngest son...

Today you hit a milestone...you are officially SIX months old!! I find myself reminiscing about you and all that you have learned and the joys you have brought to my life.

First I must tell you that your birth was a healing experience for me and your dad. We are so happy to be blessed with such a handsome, healthy little boy!!

You may be the fifth child I've given birth to, but I am still learnings things from you.

You were in such a hurry to enter the outside world that you wiggled your way out...the doctors were trying to slow you down but you would have no part of that! As you were being born you peed on the doctor. You made us laugh from the moment you took your first breath!

We expected you would be a big boy...even the doctors predicted you would be bigger than any of your siblings. When the nurses announced that you were "6 pounds 8/10s of an ounce and 18 inches long" I was shocked! My first reaction was "Oh my little shorty". You were shorter than any of your brothers or sister at birth. The only one smaller than you in weight was your sister, but only by 4 ounces. Within 20 minutes of your being born you were starving...you had the smallest little cry (we called it a squeak!)..Daddy fed you your very first bottle and you took a whole ounce!!

The next morning we got to go home. Daddy, Kelly and Tyler came to the hospital to bring you home to meet your other siblings. Kelly wanted to hold you right away--and she did!! She didn't want to put you down.

Tyler - well, that was a different story entirely. He saw you and was like "Yeah, baby...where's the cookies?"...When we got you home Tyler wanted to touch you and climb in the bassinet with you. We finally had to put the bassinet in the middle of the room so that Tyler would stop trying to get in with you (or steal all your blankets!)

Harley was absolutely THRILLED to meet you! He wanted to hold you right away. He was always 'sitting guard' watching, waiting for you to wake up so that he could hold you again. Everytime you made the smallest squeak Harley was there to put a "plug" (pacifier) in your mouth or give you another blanket because he was worried you were cold.

Robert was happy and glad to meet you but was afraid to hold you...he thought he might break you, you seemed so fragile and small.

The doctors told us you had failed your hearing test. When you were six weeks old you had another hearing test, still no change...At 12 weeks your hearing still had not improved (still a 20% hearing loss).

You had your momma so very worried because even for a newborn, you slept A LOT! I even had to wake you up just to get you to eat (and you would fall asleep eating). I am so happy you outgrew that!

When Christmas came, even though you were only 14 days old, you got gifts. Mostly blankets but you weren't left out for your 'first' Christmas.

In February 2008 you had your first cold. It was so hard on you and you and I spent a few nights staying up together and trying all different positions to get you to sleep comfortably.

You handled your first set of shots like a champ, barely crying when the needle got you...Now the second set of shots was a whole different story...You had a fever, you were grumpy and refused to sleep for two whole days!

Harley told us that you wouldn't have a brain till you could laugh and grow teeth. Oh I couldn't wait for the day. You adore Harley and all the bright colors he likes to wear. You expect him to talk to you each and every morning and seem to look for him each day.

You rolled over (by accident!) when you were only 3 1/2 months old. To this day, you still hate being on your tummy and you can roll over, you just prefer not to.

Also at 3 1/2 months, you had your first taste of solids...You LOVE to eat! You now are eating three meals a day plus snacks. You love your cheerios and teething biscuits too! I'd have to say your favorite 'flavor' is bananas...and sweet potatoes. You DO NOT like carrots, but you will eat them if they're mixed with the right amount of cereal...

The first time you laughed out loud you had me in tears, which you thought was the funniest thing ever! You know the difference between happy tears and not happy tears...and no matter what kind of tears they are you find a way to make us smile!

Finally on May 1, 2007 you had surgery to put tubes in your ears. The theory is that we were born so fast that the fluids got trapped in your ears. We were surprised at how quickly the tubes seemed to help...You seemed to hear new sounds and were amazed by the 'new' sounds you were hearing.

Since you were born you have been to the Denver Zoo four times. There will be many more trips to the Zoo and other outings too!

People who dote over you include all of Harley's therapists (Holly, Nina, all the staff at Creative Perspectives). You are such a patient little man (most of the time)...we are on the road so much!!

At five months old, you graduated into a "big" carseat instead of the little baby carrier type carseat. You seemed to understand that this was a big move and you 'grew' up and took it seriously! Now you can see out the windows of the van, you can play with Tyler (who sits right next to you!), Harley can makes faces and noises at you from the back seat...which you just absolutely adore and give the best belly laughs over!

Kelly is proud of you too...in fact, she has written her own letter to you that she will give to me to be typed after I finish this one...

Robert is a great big brother and your favorite thing to do with him is 'superbaby'..where he holds you over his head and swings you up and down. You squeal and giggle in delight.

My favorite time with you?? Anytime...whether you're happy, sad, grumpy, tired...You like to stagger your nap time with Tyler so that you get that special mommy and me time in...You always want to be carried in your sling (the ring sling seems to be your favorite now). My eyes seem to be the perfect toy for you to poke at. My hair is your favorite thing to pull on and weave your fingers through. When I take my hair down each night, you get a kick out of running your fingers through it and giggling.

The exersaucer and your walker are not preferred sitting areas for you, although you will deal with sitting in them for almost 10 whole minutes -- I guess in your life 10minutes is a long time.

Now the johnny jump up IS your favorite, but Tyler likes to swing you into the door jambs. They have now come out with this thing called a jumperoo...it's a johnny jump up on it's own frame!! We picked one up for you last night and you don't quite seem to understand that you can bounce in it just as you do the jump up...but this morning...boy were you excited to get into it and start bouncing!!

Each and every day you get stronger! Sitting up is something new you're working on now. You can sit up by yourself for nearly 10 seconds now (if you're not too busy being curious and knocking yourself over trying to turn your head all over the place to see things from the new perspective!).

Something you've been doing about a week now must be your precursor to crawling. You lay on your back and arch it in a way that gets you 'inchworming' across the room! It's so cute to watch and you can really get a lot of places doing that!

The First Official Tooth has come in! YAY! You have been struggling with teeth since you were 3 months old. All your brothers and sisters got teeth early and you were trying to get up there with them, but those darned teeth just didn't want to cooperate. Whenever Momma sticks her finger in your mouth, you get a real kick out of mom rubbing your new tooth and making a big deal out of it! Just wait, you got many more of those to come yet!

Bathtime is also one of your favorite times...just two days ago you took your first bath with Tyler...you both enjoyed it so much. I can tell you guys will grow up to be close brothers and even closer friends. I am honored you have joined our family!

You are such a 'mellow' little baby as everyone describes you...We absolutely adore you around here and are looking forward to watching you grow more and more each day.

I am going to go and find some of your pictures and post some slideshows of you as your grow..But right now you are napping and so is your brother, so mom's going to do the same....

There's so many more things to share with you, to learn about each other -- I am so looking forward to those times.

I LOVE YOU SON!! I AM SO THANKFUL TO YOU FOR BEING SUCH A BIG PART OF MY LIFE!!

XOXOXO
Mommy
